Custom Stainless Steel Ozone Contact Tanks
Ozone is aggressive enough that the contact vessel material is part of the system design, not an afterthought. Swhift builds these in stainless, welded and sized to the contact time your treatment scheme calls for.
What Custom Ozone Contact Tanks are for
An ozone contact tank is where dissolved ozone is given time to work. Ozone is generated on demand, injected into the water stream, and then held in the contact vessel long enough to complete oxidation and disinfection before the water moves downstream. Size the vessel wrong and you either waste ozone or fail to hold contact time.
The material matters because ozone is a strong oxidizer. It attacks many plastics and elastomers over time, which is why the contact vessel is normally stainless. Our ozone tanks are built with the same mechanically assisted circumferential welds as the rest of our pressure vessels.
These are quoted as custom vessels. Tell us the flow rate and the contact time your process requires, and whether the vessel runs pressurized or vented, and we will size and build it.
Typical applications
- Municipal and private drinking water treatment
- Commercial ozone laundry systems
- Bottling and beverage water treatment
- Well water iron, manganese and sulfur treatment
- CIP and sanitation water

Custom Ozone Contact Tanks: common questions
How big does an ozone contact tank need to be?
Volume follows from flow rate and required contact time — a system moving more water, or one that needs a longer hold to hit its disinfection target, needs a larger vessel. Give us the design flow and the contact time your engineer specified and we will size it. If you are still working that out, our tank volume calculator will get you to a rough figure.
Why stainless rather than a plastic tank?
Ozone is a strong oxidizer and degrades many plastics and elastomers over time. Stainless holds up to continuous ozone service, which is why it is the normal choice for the contact vessel even in systems that use plastic elsewhere.
304 or 316 for ozone service?
304 is our standard and 316 is available. The deciding factor is usually chloride content and temperature rather than the ozone itself — our warranty covers T-304 up to 1.5 ppm chlorine and T-316 up to 8 ppm. Send your water chemistry with the quote request.
Can you build the tank to fit an existing skid?
Yes. Send the skid drawing or the envelope you have to work inside, along with the port locations you need, and we will build the vessel to fit rather than making you rebuild the skid.
Does the tank come with the ozone generator?
No — we fabricate the stainless contact vessel. The generator, injector and controls come from your system supplier. We regularly build vessels that get integrated into someone else's package, so send us their requirements and we will match them.
